The power of leadership in Private Equity: Meet InX's new Partner, Charlie Robinson
We’re excited to welcome Charlie Robinson to the InX team as our newest Partner in the Private Equity team. With over 17 years of experience spanning executive search and private equity in both Singapore and the UK, Charlie has a passion for human capital and helping businesses thrive through strategic leadership. Recently, Charlie sat down with our Brand Manager, Becca Boulton, to talk about his journey, his excitement for the private equity world, and the key trends shaping the industry. In this Q&A, Charlie shares his insights on leadership, collaboration, and how the market is evolving.
Welcome to InX! Could you give us a brief introduction to who you are and your background?
I’ve spent the last 17 years living between Singapore and the UK, working in the worlds of executive search and private equity. My focus has been helping businesses grow by finding the right people, as well as originating and executing investments. I’m a big believer in the power of human capital to drive business strategy, and I love connecting with people who share that passion. Up until a few years ago, I spent my weekends playing rugby or traveling, but now most of my time is spent picking up toys and explaining why painting with ketchup is not a thing—and definitely not something that can be done in the living room!
You’re joining as ‘Partner’ for the Private Equity team – how do you plan to work with the team?
I’ve really enjoyed jumping in with the team! Internal collaboration at InX means not only assessing the core offering we have for our clients but also identifying additional value-adds that continue to set us apart from the competition. The balance is in keeping our core functions sharp while exploring overlaps with other areas of our clients' businesses. Whether it’s during strategy meetings or over a pint after work, I believe the keys to success are communication, trust, and hopefully, a few good laughs along the way.
What is it about the Private Equity market that interests you?
For me, the real value in Private Equity lies in the leadership teams that steer a company toward success. While financials and strategy are important, it’s the right executive team that truly determines whether a portfolio company thrives or stalls. What excites me most is the role executive search plays in shaping that outcome. By identifying and placing the right leadership, we’re not just filling roles – we’re positioning a business for long-term growth and, ultimately, a successful transaction. The difference a great leadership team can make, especially when aligning talent with business objectives, is enormous. I find it incredibly rewarding to be part of that journey, helping companies secure the leadership that takes them from potential to performance.
What trends are you seeing in the market at the moment with PE/executive search?
The market’s definitely evolving! There’s a huge demand for leadership that’s agile and adaptable. With everything going on in the world—from economic shifts to rapid tech advancements—businesses need leaders who can roll with the punches and still deliver results. The profiles and backgrounds of people in this field are also shifting. A lot of investors have adapted their risk profiles over the past few years, and bringing in operational executives with deep industry experience, who can mitigate risk, has never been more critical.
What advice do you have for leaders looking for roles at the moment in your space?
Networking is your best friend—not just when you’re job hunting, but always. Build those relationships, even if it’s just catching up over a coffee or dropping a quick note on LinkedIn. Stay ahead of the curve: know your market, understand where things are heading, and don’t be afraid to pitch yourself as the solution to future challenges. And don’t take yourself too seriously—the best leaders I’ve met are always learning and aren’t afraid to have a bit of fun along the way!
